Airbnb partnered with Resy to launch restaurant reservations. We still couldn't get a table.

Mission

To make Airbnb a more functional app for travelers during a trip, Airbnb partnered with Resy to offer a curated list of restaurants—from local favorites to award winners—and make it easy to book a table right in the app. Bokeh was asked to develop an illustration style to create a fun animated video and email campaign to announce the launch of this new feature in 16 major markets across the U.S.

Resy Comparison

Swede and simple

We wanted to explore integrating the photorealistic UI of the product into the illustrated animation. This combination allowed us to actually show Resy in action on the Airbnb app, creating a video that was informative and clear, but also colorful and entertaining.

For the animated portions, we based our color palette around green and yellow, the colors used in the app, rather than Airbnb’s signature Rausch. By utilizing Kazan and Beach, we offered a fresh take on Airbnb’s palette while still keeping it tied to the brand.

It was also important to use an illustration style that was light and simple, with lots of lines rather than dense shapes that could conflict with the app. This directive led us to Swedish illustrator Jonas Mosesson. The resulting illustrations he did trended on Dribble’s home page for several days.
